Ben Davey is Director of Contour Golf Design Group; Ben began his golf course design career when he joined Melbourne-based Cashmore Golf Design in 1996. He gained significant experience working with Tony Cashmore on courses including 13th Beach Golf Links on the Bellarine Peninsula, the Henley Course at Heritage Golf Club and the Dunes Golf Links on the Mornington Peninsula. As Senior Designer at Cashmore Golf, Ben went on to play a major role in the company’s expansion into Korea, Vietnam and China. In 2008, Ben left Cashmore Golf to set up Davey Shearer Golf Design with an initial focus on the Chinese market. With Ben as the lead Golf Course Architect and former pro-golfer Bob Shearer as Design Consultant, Davey Shearer successfully completed five golf courses across China over seven years – more than any other Australian golf course architecture company during that time, Following on from the success of Davey Shearer Golf Design, Contour Golf Design Group evolved in 2016. With a strong focus on the Australian market, Contour Golf now has clients across the country in Victoria, WA, ACT, NSW and Tasmania. Contour Golf draws upon the skills of a range of professionals, who have worked with Ben during his 20+ years in the golfing industry, Ben was raised in Melbourne, where he learnt to play golf on the internationally-famous Melbourne Sand belt. He is a long term member of Royal Melbourne Golf Club, where he has played to a single figure handicap, Ben has a Bachelor of Science (Geological and Earth Sciences) and Graduate Diplomas in Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture, all from the University of Melbourne. Ben is a full member of the Society of Australian Golf Course Architects and for the past ten years, he has been co-editor of the Society’s annual journal, Golf Architecture.
